Our Staff

Our Pastor

Rev. David Lagerveld has served as the pastor of McGaheysville UMC for over 6 years. He answered God’s call to the ordained ministry in 1994. He has served appointments in Elliston, Bedford, and Harrisonburg prior to becoming our pastor. He was ordained Elder in 2000. Pastor David is married to Rev. Barbara Gross who is also a United Methodist Pastor serving in the Harrisonburg area. They have 3 adult sons and 2 grandchildren. Click here to read Rev. David's welcome message.

Music Director

Jerrilyn MacDanel has taught elementary music for over 28 years. In addition to her teaching she directs an ecumenical Community Choir, the Celebration Singers and serves as Director of the Children's Choral Camp at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Virginia. Jerrilyn has presented workshops in Virginia, Maryland, Nebraska and New Jersey and has frequently been a clinician for the Virginia Music Educators Association fall in-service conference.

Office Manager

Shirley Diggle is our church secretary. She has lengthy experience in the administrative field, having worked both here in the United States and abroad (Japan). Shirley has always loved music and is a member of the Elkton UMC Choir, Contemporary Praise Band, and the Bell Choir. She also fills in whenever they need a pianist or organist. Shirley is very active in her home church (Elkton UMC) and is a member of the United Methodist Women, the Pastor, Parish Relations Committee and serves as Chairperson of the Music committee. She lives in McGaheysville with her husband, Joe.

Church Pianist

Becky Holmes is our church pianist and accompanist and is Jerrilyn's partner in choral crime at Wednesday night choir rehearsals. Her New Year's resolution is to learn to play the organ without contributing to noise pollution. Becky began playing piano for her home church when she was in her teens. She studied piano in Hagerstown for two years with Sung Mi Rhee, a concert pianist. She lives in Harrisonburg with her husband Michael and two daughters, Katy and Emily.

Randy Churchill lives with his wonderful wife, Janis, and their family on a quiet back road near McGaheysville. When he is not messing around with contemporary worship music, he's probably either in the vegetable garden behind their house, or on a bicycle, enjoying the beautiful roads and views that our area is so blessed with. His music love comes from his Dad, who taught it in high school for 30+ years, and was his guitar teacher a long time ago. The Churchill's vacation spot each summer is Cape Hatteras, where they love to fish, and enjoy the beach all day long.

Nursery Supervisor

Andrea Sager recently moved to the McGaheysville area. She lives with her mom, dad, two sisters, and one brother. She is also employed as an assistant teacher with a preschool in the area and a waitress at a local restaurant. Andrea enjoys spending time with her family, working with children, and going on trips to new areas.
