About Us
How it all began...
In 1802 Tobias Randolph McGaughey settled in the area, that we now call McGaheysville, and opened up a post office. As the community grew it was clear that God has a plan in place. God used Mr. McGaughey to help establish the Methodist church in McGaheysville, and in 1835, our first building was constructed on what is now the back of our property. The following years were tough for not only the Methodist church, but for the whole country as it was divided by the Civil War. But after the war was concluded our men came home, and the congregation grew. In 1872, through much prayer and discernment, God led His people to build a larger church on what is now the front of our property and remove the old building. Growth continued and in 1925 our first Sunday school rooms were built. This addition now houses our social hall and clothes ministry. In the 1960's Sunday school attendance had reached such a height that an educational wing was added to our building. As our country struggled through the difficult times of The Great Depression and WWII, and its belief system in God and the church wavered, attendance dropped. But through out the 1960's to today the church has grown rapidly. We are blessed with quality leadership and a very active youth. The ladies of the church have always been very active in ministry, whose predecessors were the Women's Society of Christian service. In actuality the roots of our annual smorgasbord was started by this ladies group. We are not sure how this started, but over the years more and more people have come to enjoy this now famous food. As a result, our annual smorgasbord, which continues today, is now a church-wide event. Over the years God has been faithful to our church, and our members have been faithful to God. Even today, following in the footsteps of our predecessors, we continue to step out in the name of Jesus Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit, to make disciples and to give a helping hand to our neighbors near and worldwide. To God be the Glory!!
