McGaheysville Academy
Our Strategy for Making Disciples of Jesus Christ
 
The Academy is designed to not only help new people coming into the Church become involved in the life of the Church, but more importantly, to help them become Disciples of Jesus Christ.  It is seperated into three "semesters"

Semester One: Designed to introduce new people to the faith
and to help them become comfortable in developing thier faith.
 
MUMC-101: Orientation

MUMC-103: Study of United Methodist Beliefs
 
Semester Two: Designed to help new Christians more deeply
develop and grow their faith.
 
MUMC-201: Regular Attendance and Participation in a Small
                    Group or Sunday School
MUMC-202: Elective Bible Study
MUMC-203: Elective Bible Study
MUMC-204: Experiencing God
 
Semester Three: Designed to teach and equip growing
Christians to go out into the community, share their faith
and lead others to Christ.

MUMC-101: Orientation
A one evening program that is offered to everyone who has started attending church since the last orientation meeting.  It is offered a few times a year.  A person can only attend one time and it is by invitation only.  If a person cannot attend, they are invited for three consecutive meetings.  If they do not attend any of them, they will no longer be invited to attend.  The church provides dinner as a gift to the people attending.  Information that is covered is: who we are as a church; what we believe; our Vision and plans for the future; Spiritual gifts assesment/Ministries opportunities; and an invitation to get involved in spiritual growth and service.
 
MUMC-102: Introduction to the Bible

MUMC-103: Study of United Methodist Beliefs
A 7-session course on what we believe as a Denomination to help people become acclimated to the U.M. Church
 
MUMC-201: Small Groups and/or Sunday School
Informal groups designed for spiritual growth, nurturing, and service opportunities.  It is Christian education for everyone.
 
MUMC-202/203: Elective Bible Study Courses
Ongoing short-term studies that are offered at various times throughout the year and are taught by various teachers.  Some courses are Baptisim study, Prayer study, etc.
 
MUMC-204: Experiencing God
A 12-week course designed to teach us how to experience God in our lives in very practical ways.
 
MUMC-301: Walk to Emmaus
A 3-day ecumenical spiritual renewal weekend that is offered twice a year at Camp Overlook.  A person can only attend one time and must be sponsered by a person who has already attended.  It is a truly a life-changing experience.
 
MUMC-302: Christian Issues
A 9-session course designed to teach us how to apply Christianity to contemporary societal issues of today.
 
MUMC-303: Faith Sharing
A 6-session video-led course.  It teaches us how to get in touch with our faith and how to share it with others.
 
MUMC-304: Sunday School/Small Group Leader Training
This course will teach people how to organize, lead, manage and teach a small group or class.  It will be required for everyone prior to leading a small group or teaching a class.
